NPR Presents Music From the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival to Listeners Nationwide
Media Invited to Go Behind the Scenes of a Live National Broadcast
Friday, August 18, 2000
Santa Fe, NM - The sounds of some of the world's finest musicians performing in one of the country's most inspiring settings will fill the airwaves when National Public Radio® (NPR®) presents an unprecedented week of concerts from the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival.
Returning to the festival for the first time in 13 years, NPR's daily classical music program, Performance Today, will bring to the nation some of Santa Fe's distinct musical treasures. Listeners across America will get the extraordinary opportunity to "listen in" on violin superstar Pinchas Zukerman's master class and sample Santa Fe's first-ever Salute to the Indian Market marathon concert which is timed to coincide with the world-renowned gathering of Native American artisans. Listeners will also hear the Gala Finale Concert, featuring violinist Pinchas Zukerman, pianist Leon Fleisher, cellist Ralph Kirshbaum and violist Michael Tree. NPR's Lisa Simeone will be on location in Santa Fe hosting the Performance Today broadcasts, which will also feature interviews and profiles of Santa Fe artists such as Marc Neikrug, the Chamber Music Festival's artistic director, composer and pianist.
On Friday, August 18, 2000, media are invited to interview NPR on-air talent, producers, technicians and engineers as they transform an outdoor plaza in Santa Fe into an intimate recording studio for Performance Today's national broadcast.
Renowned for its journalistic excellence and standard-setting news, information, and cultural programming, NPR reaches a growing audience of nearly 15 million Americans each week via more than 644 public radio stations. NPR also distributes programming to listeners in Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa via NPR Worldwidesm, to military installations overseas via American Forces Network and throughout Japan via cable.
